MILAN — Jordan Stolz added to his growing Olympic legacy Saturday evening, setting an Olympic record in the men’s 500-meter speed skating to capture his second gold medal of the 2026 Winter Games.
Stolz blazed across the ice at the Milano Speed Skating Stadium in 33.77 seconds, overtaking Jenning de Boo of the Netherlands on the final straightaway, according to Team USA. De Boo took silver in 33.88 seconds, while Canada’s Laurent Dubreuil earned bronze in 34.26.
The victory made Stolz just the second American man to win both the 500m and 1000m at the same Winter Olympics, joining Eric Heiden, who swept all five individual distances at the 1980 Lake Placid Games. Bonnie Blair is the only American woman to accomplish the 500m-1000m double, doing so at both the 1992 and 1994 Winter Games.
Two other Americans also competed in the event. Cooper McLeod finished 22nd with a time of 34.90 seconds, and Zach Stoppelmoor placed 27th in 35.42.
