Miners Hockey win High School State Championships 7-1 against Brighton

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Park City High School boys varsity Red team skated to a decisive 7–1 victory over the Brighton Navy team on Wednesday night, claiming the Utah High School Hockey State Championship at the Salt Lake County Ice Arena.

The title marks Park City’s third consecutive state championship and the sixth in the last seven seasons, a stretch defined by veteran leadership and program stability. Nearly half the roster is made up of seniors, a group Head Coach Mike Adamek credits with setting the tone both on and off the ice.

“They’re the leaders of the group — on the ice and in the locker room,” Adamek said. “They’ve done an incredible job.”

Park City wasted little time establishing control in the championship game, scoring three goals in the first period and adding four more in the second. Mitchell Berry led the scoring with two first-period goals, while Wyatt Nellis added a pair in the second. Jayden Jacobs, Nikolas Morgan, and Hunter Jaques also found the net, helping support the Miners’ offensive push.

Goal scorers for Park City:

  1. Jayden Jacobs in min 8:18 of the First Period
  2. Mitchell Berry min 5:33, First
  3. Mitchell Berry, 10:51, First
  4. Nikolas Morgan, 2:33, Second
  5. Wyatt Nellis, 1:27, Second
  6. Wyatt Nellis, 13:59, Second
  7. Hunter Jaques, 9:19, Second

Behind the offensive surge, goaltender Alex Harhi anchored the Miners’ defense, closing out his third straight championship season with the team.

Adamek also pointed to strong community support and consistent access to ice time at the nearby rink as key factors in the program’s sustained success, crediting a partnership with the Park City Recreation Department.

The coach emphasized the team’s culture as its true foundation, highlighting the closeness of the players and the emphasis on mutual respect in the locker room paired with talent and passion for the sport.

“I feel lucky to lead this group of young men,” Adamek said. “The camaraderie and how much they care about each other — it’s cool to see.”

As the Miners look ahead, Adamek said the addition of a new ice rink in the county will only help grow the youth programs by easing the ongoing shortage of ice time.

He summed up the championship run simply: the Miners, he said, are supported by “the best players, the best coaches, the best parents, and the best volunteers.”
