Two evenings of BalletNEXT: Giselle and World Premiere by Brian Reeder

PARK CITY, UT — BalletNEXT will present an updated adaptation of the classic ballet “Giselle” on Oct. 23 at the Jim Santy Auditorium in Park City, followed by an evening of original ballet performances on Oct. 24. Both performances are scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The Oct. 23 performance of “Giselle” offers a fresh take on the traditional story of a young village girl who, after a tragic betrayal, transforms into a ghostly spirit. BalletNEXT’s version features a score that blends traditional music with contemporary Halloween tunes, accompanied by narration. Audience members are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. A Q&A session with the dancers and musicians will follow the performance.

On Oct. 24, BalletNEXT will present the world premiere of a new work by acclaimed choreographer Brian Reeder. The program will consist of dynamic contemporary pieces, all accompanied by live musicians. The evening will open with Passacaglia, choreographed by BalletNEXT artistic director Michele Wiles, followed by Reeder’s new work The Loop, which features an electric cello using a pedal looping technique. Reeder created the piece specifically for BalletNEXT during his spring residency in Park City. The night will conclude with The Devil Wears Pointe Shoes, a western-themed ballet choreographed by Wiles.

Both evenings promise a mix of classic and contemporary ballet, offering something for a wide range of audiences.
