Utah health expert tackles climate crisis in Park City talk

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Library will host a climate crisis awareness event on Oct. 2, featuring Dr. Mark Goldfarb, a local graduate of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Corps training program.

The event, scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., aims to provide attendees with a factual overview of the climate crisis at local, national, and global levels.

Dr. Goldfarb, who serves as the Climate Change Ambassador for Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPHE), will lead the session. UPHE is the largest civic organization of health care professionals in Utah, with approximately 430 physician members and over 3,500 public members.

The event coincides with increased efforts by The Climate Reality Project, founded by former Vice President Al Gore, to train climate advocates across the United States. The organization recently announced its 57th Climate Reality Leadership training, scheduled for Oct. 17-23.

“As we approach the second half of this decisive decade for climate action, we need all hands on deck to accelerate a just transition to clean energy,” Gore said in a statement. “This training will activate the newest generation of Climate Reality Leaders to harness the collective power of civic engagement and advocacy at this monumental moment for the future of humanity.”

The Climate Reality Project’s training comes as communities nationwide face escalating impacts from climate change, including extreme weather events and agricultural challenges due to flooding and drought.

According to the organization, the United States “remains the world’s second largest producer of greenhouse gas pollution,” despite recent progress in addressing climate change causes.

The Park City event offers local residents an opportunity to engage with these issues at a community level. Attendees will learn about tools for making both large-scale and individual changes to address the climate crisis.
