Sandhurst fire evacuation order lifted as fire crews make progress containing the burn

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Salt Lake City Police in consultation with the Sandhurst Fire incident commander, lifted all evacuation orders previously associated with the Sandhurst Fire, Sunday night.

The Sandhurst Fire incident command team is still requesting residents, once returned, to remain prepared to evacuate, if needed.

Firefighters remain on the fire and will continue efforts until full suppression is reached, officials said Monday.

During an update given Sunday, Brian LaFontaine, an operations trainee, said crews had worked hard to secure the fire’s boundaries.

“We were able to secure a good chunk of the line to the north, along the ridge line, around the communications towers, additionally along the south flank of a fire off the Sandhurst road to the west, up onto the ridgeline in the structure protection division,” he said.

Monday, crews will be engaged early, focused on the south, southern and eastern perimeters, bolstering those lines and trying to keep the fire contained.
