Park City Police Officers make Elijah’s day

PARK CITY, Utah — On March 4, two Park City Police Department (PCPD)’s officers helped a man named Elijah, who had just been displaced from a job he was working in Duchesne.

Elijah had only been in Utah for a couple of weeks when he was dismissed without cause. He made it to Park City with nothing but what he wore, including sandals.

Homeless Liaison Officer Bittner and Officer Parker saw that Elijah needed help and wanted a way back to New Jersey. Officer Bittner, who is also from New Jersey, drove Elijah to the Christian Center of Park City (CCPC). Having developed a great relationship with the CCPC, a Park City Police Department’s community partner, Officer Bittner introduced Elijah to a caseworker and Director of Programs Matt Melville.

Elijah was also greeted by Community Outreach Officer Jason Rose. The CCPC outfitted Elijah with clothing, boots, and food. The caseworker arranged for Elijah’s passage back home.

As for people experiencing homelessness, Lt. Jay Randall, who heads the Community Outreach department said, “we have several individuals who spend their time here.” Park City tends to average only one new homeless person a month. “Most want to stay, but with the weather conditions, it is a challenge.” Park City currently does not have a shelter, but the Christian Center has resources that extend beyond clothing. They were able to fund Elijah’s trip back to New Jersey.

The Park City Police Department stated in their announcement, “We are so proud of our officers and the wonderful people at the Christian Center for making Elijah’s day a whole lot better!”
