From Arkansas graduate to local Park City muralist

PARK CITY, Utah — Emily Miquelon moved to Park City in 2016 after graduating from the University of Arkansas with a degree in advertising and public relations. She took on a variety of jobs and traveled as much as her funds would allow, eventually making an unlikely connection between tourism and art.

“Traveling made me realize how important it was for me to create. I need to have paint.” She loves the impressionistic styles and colors of Monet and Matisse and is inspired by the outdoors. As an interdisciplinary artist, Emily works mainly in acrylic paint but enjoys creating a little bit of everything from handmade jewelry to design and digital illustrations. Her pieces are less about the subject itself and more about what it is to experience a moment.

In 2022, Emily was chosen as one of four artists to create murals around Utah. Her colorful mural “Go Together” graces the DABC Building located at 1901 Sidewinder Drive in the Prospector Square area of Park City. The theme for this project was “Whatever your child’s journey, go together.”

Emily was also thrilled to participate as an aspiring artist in the 2023 Park City Kimball Arts Festival. She says she admired the arts festival for years, looked around and realized “My art is with all the other art that I think is amazing.”

Today, Emily is one of the 2024 artists-in-residence at the Arts Council’s new venture CREATE PC, a program facilitated by the Arts Council of Park City and Summit County that provides two floors of opportunities for local artists, comprising both studio and exhibition space. A local artist collective, CREATE PC showcases Summit County creatives by giving them a platform to grow and thrive.

Emily’s goal for 2024 is to create a collection. She says setting goals is “a good challenge for your creative muscles.” She is excited to learn from her fellow artists.
