DENVER, Colo. — Denver-based Alterra Mountain Company has acquired 18-year-round ski and snowboard resorts in seven states and three Canadian provinces. The company announced that it has entered into an agreement to purchase Arapahoe Basin ski resort near Denver.

The 1,428-acre ski resort is located 68 miles from Denver and features some of North America’s highest elevation and most challenging terrain. A-Basin is also known for its iconic Beavers and Montezuma Bowl and boasts numerous summer activities, including hiking, camping and fishing.

The acquisition of Arapahoe Basin is part of Alterra Mountain Company’s strategy of growing its portfolio of unique ski resorts in North America. The company believes that the addition of Arapahoe Basin will enhance its product offering and attract even more skiers to the mountains. The transaction is expected to close in 2024 and will strengthen Alterra Mountain Company’s position as one of the leading providers of ski vacations in North America.

Alan Henceroth, chief operating officer of Arapahoe Basin, said in a press release, “A-Basin has a long-time and loyal following among skiers and riders in Colorado and we care deeply about the culture of A-Basin that brings them back. We have worked with Alterra Mountain Company since 2019 when we joined the Ikon Pass community, and we have every faith that Alterra is committed to helping us maintain A-Basin’s authenticity.”
