Winter storm warning issued for Park City on Tues., significant snowfall continuing through week

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City area has been issued a winter storm warning this week, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). The warning, in effect from Tuesday morning through early Thursday morning, warns of heavy snowfall that could significantly impact the region, with the potential for challenging travel conditions and, finally, some powder skiing.

Total snow accumulations of up to 10 inches are expected in the Wasatch Back by Wednesday, with additional totals up to 12 inches predicted from noon on Wednesday through Thursday afternoon.

Snow squall conditions are expected on Tuesday afternoon and evening, which could further impact the evening commute. Residents and travelers in the Park City area are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather conditions, with the possibility of more snowfall beyond Thursday.

Powderchasers’ recent snow report states that while moderate totals are likely overnight Tuesday, continued snowfall on Wednesday could result in accumulations exceeding 12-15 inches in the Cottonwoods. Some models even suggest higher totals in the northern Wasatch, including areas like Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, and Beaver Mountain. The presence of strong winds on Wednesday, with gusts reaching 40 – 50mph at 10,000 feet, may lead to upper lift closures, especially in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

As the week progresses, the snow predictions keep coming, with another system looking to hit by the week’s end. The following image, courtesy of Powderchasers, shows promise for the Park City area mountains to hit snow totals of up to 2 feet with these storm cycles by Saturday.
