Park City Ski & Snowboard’s Myles Teela shines among 700 Soldier Hollow skiers

MIDWAY, Utah — At Friday and Saturday’s Super Qualification, or “Super Q” cross country ski event at Soldier Hollow, the biggest local success story of came from one of the smallest skiers when Myles Teela won first place, two times in his under 12-year-old category.

Teela skis in the Kickers and Gliders group with Park City Ski and Snowboard – Nordic (PCSS) at the White Pine Nordic Center with coach and Olympic gold and silver medalist, Billy Demong.

The 700 athletes were in town trying to qualify for the Cross Country Jr. National’s in Lake Placid later in the season. This was one in a series of “JNQ”s. 

The course, held at the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic venue had a 1.8k on Friday for everybody and on Saturday there were different distances including  4k, 5k, and 7.5k.

University of Utah Ski Team alum Luke Bodensteiner is the Chief of Sport Development for the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation working on getting the 2034 Olympics to Utah, and he’s the General Manager of the 2002 Olympic Soldier Hollow Venue, last but not least he’s a two-time Olympian himself.

Bodensteiner told TownLift,  “The Super Qualifier is always a highlight of the winter for us. We love to see so many kids and families from all over the West enjoying SOHO’s fabulous trails and experiencing everything that Midway has to offer. It’s evident that cross country skiing is extremely popular, and we’re honored to be able to host legions of participants for a festival like this one.”

The races were attended by 700 athletes from Vail, Aspen, Tahoe, Bachelor, Bridger, Steamboat, Durango, Bogus Basin, Winter Park, Targhe, Spokane, Mammoth, Sun Valley, Crested Butte, Big Sky, and Jackson Hole, to name a few.

Jackson Hole in Wyoming and Bridger in Montana were the big winners overall on Friday.

Ian Carmack, got 6th out of 113 on Friday in the male U16 in the sprint with a time of 3 minutes, 27.43 seconds. Martin Radu of Team Soldier Hollow SOHO) placed 15th in that class.

For the females U16 on Friday, Teagan Hoffman of PCSS placed 8th out of 89 with a time of 3:58.75. Gabrielle Harris from Team SOHO  came in 12th, and PCSS’s Rhys Weidenhamer finished in 16th.

On Friday in the U20 male Classic-ski-style, Sprint, Qualifier, Daniel Radu of Team SOHO came in 14th with a time of 3:27.15. Daniel Whitbeck of The Utah Nordic Alliance (TUNA) in at 3:28.10.

In the U18 male’s, PCSS’s Tory Hoffman came in 3rd at 3:09.26. his teammate Lucas Fassio had a 3:14.28 coming in 6th, and Liam Snihurowych placed 14th with a 3:16.77. 

For the U16 in that class, Ian Carmack finished 5th with a 3:27.43, and PCSS’s Jaydon Crouch rounded out the top ten at 3:31.94. 

The U18 females saw an 8th place from Team SOHO’s Sarah Hottle at 3:56.07, and Keeley Starr Fisher of PCSS had a 17th place finish with a time of 4:04.26.

For the U16 females on Friday in the Classic Sprint Qualifier, Teagan Hoffman of PCSS came in 5th, with 3:58.75, Gabrielle Harris of Team SOHO came in 12th at 4:07:20, and PCSS’s Rhys Weidenhamer placed 14th at 4:09.10.

On Friday, the U12 males had a first place from PCSS in Myles Teela, PCSS’s Miles Taylor finished 17th at 4:14.30, and PCSS’s Donovan Toly came in at 19th with 4:21.84 and a top 20 from PCSS’s U14 female, Alison Berry at 3:52.64.

(Apples to oranges distances) Saturday’s results of the Interval Start Skate races: U24 male was PCSS’s Graham Martin with a in 14th, U12 females in 13th place from TUNA’s Alison Yarbrough.

U12 Male Myles Teela of PCSS in 1st place again, PCSS’s Donovan Toly in 4th and Miles Taylor in 7th, with Timur Borjigin in 16th.

U10 males has PCSS’s Landen McGaughy on the podium in 3rd, Rider Stoughton from PCSS in 8th, Flynn Thomas from PCSS in 8th, and in 9th from PCSS was Fred Peterson.

U16 males was Ian Carmack in 3rd, Martin Radu of Team SOHO came in 13th.

U16 females had PCSS’s Teagan Hoffman in 7th, Rhys Weidenhamer in 14th. 

U18 females was 15th place for Keeley Starr Fisher, and 20th for Team SOHO’s Sarah Hottle.

U20 males was Duncan Whitbeck of Team TUNA in 7th, and Daniel Radu of Team SOHO finishing 12th.

U18 males had PCSS’s Lucas Fassio ending the day in 13th, and teammate Tory Hoffman in 15th.

Big winners overall on Saturday were from Tahoe and Steamboat Springs.
