Teen in critical condition following auto-pedestrian accident in Heber

HEBER CITY, Utah — A 14-year-old boy is in critical condition following an auto-pedestrian accident this morning.

According to a statement from the Heber City Police Department, the teen was on his bicycle at approximately 7:45 a.m. on his way to school when he crossed from south to north in a crosswalk at the intersection of 500 East and 1200 South in Heber City.

The crosswalk crosses five lanes of traffic, and has yellow lights that were flashing at the time of the incident. A work van traveling eastbound on 1200 South failed to yield to the lights, and struck the boy in the crosswalk.

The teen was transported to Utah Valley Hospital in critical condition, and he is now in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the van has been charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian’s right of way in a school crosswalk.
