Bomb squad called to Heber City library after suspicious bottle found

HEBER CITY, Utah — A suspicious bottle discovered near the Heber City Library prompted an evacuation and a response from the Salt Lake City area bomb squad Friday morning.

The Heber City Police Department said it was notified at approximately 10:38 a.m. June 13 of the bottle, found near the library in the area of 1200 South and 550 East. The bottle had a note attached indicating it was intended for law enforcement and should not be touched.

Officers deployed a K-9 trained in explosive detection to evaluate the item. The dog gave a positive indication on the bottle, prompting authorities to evacuate the library and surrounding area and temporarily restrict nearby traffic.

The Salt Lake City area bomb squad responded with specialized equipment, including a robot, and safely disposed of the item. A subsequent sweep of the area found no explosives or explosive materials.

“There is no ongoing threat to the community,” the department said, and normal access to the area has since resumed.

The Heber City Police Department’s investigations team is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The department thanked the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office and the Salt Lake City area bomb squad for their assistance.
