Eight homes evacuated for gas line break on Highland Drive

PARK CITY, Utah — Eight homes on Highland Drive were evacuated for a gas line break yesterday after a 3rd party contractor damaged the line during construction in the middle of the road.

According to Park City Fire District (PCFD) Battalion Chief Darren Nelson, it took crews several hours to repair the four-inch gas line break. Dominion Energy was quick in their response to shut off the gas line.

Multiple fire units were on scene to control access and traffic control. Highland Drive was closed briefly, but is now back open. According to Nelson, residents should not worry about any lingering effects in that area.

According to a spokesperson for Dominion Energy, backfill on the road has been completed.  The only thing left to do is the paving, which will happen at an undetermined later date by a contractor company.

The spokesperson relayed that while Dominion Energy is confident in the mitigation of the incident, for those in the area of Highland Drive, they ask customers to call their dispatch line at 1-800-767-1689 if they suspect a leak or damage to a line. Crews will promptly come out to assess and determine next steps.
