Patient in critical condition after trailer fire on I-80 in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah – At approximately 12:25 p.m. on August 1, emergency personnel responded to a trailer fire on I-80 near mile marker 155. 

When Firefighters and EMS arrived on scene, the trailer was fully engulfed in flames and large plumes of black smoke were visible. The fire was also spreading to the nearby grass. One person was burned and transported by ambulance for a hotload rendezvous at the Utah Department of Transportation location at Silver Creek Junction.

The patient was then transferred to Airmed and transported to the University of Utah Medical Center in Critical Condition. Firefighters continued to work to knock down the fire.

KSL reported that three other people were in the truck at the time of the fire and they were unharmed. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Neighbors were able to view and record the fire from their yards but no structures or homes are in danger.
