Crews respond to wildland fire above Park City Mountain

UPDATE: The Thaynes Canyon fire has been 100% contained as of 5:00 p.m. on August 27.

PARK CITY, Utah — Smoke and flames were visible from the Willow Creek Park area at 6:39 a.m. Thursday, with the fire estimated to be burning in the vicinity of Pinecone Ridge on Park City Mountain.

The fire is burning in an area approximately 100 feet by 50 feet, with about 20 trees actively burning, according to emergency radio traffic.

Engine 336 was dispatched to the incident, and Backcountry 33 is on scene being escorted up to the ridgeline by a Park City Mountain team.

All trails in the Park City Mountain area are closed until further notice. Please avoid the area and choose an alternate location for recreation.

A text alert from Summit County confirmed that Park City Fire Department is responding to a single-tree lightning strike fire above Park City Mountain.

“Park City Fire District are currently working to allocate resources to combat the fire, which is currently contained to a single tree,” an update on the district’s social media reads. “At this time there’s no danger to structures or the community”

Summit County 911 dispatch is aware of the incident and is sending resources to the area. They have asked residents not to call in to report the fire.

No evacuations have been announced at this time.
