Child dies after falling from boat at Echo State Park

COALVILLE, Utah — A Utah child died yesterday in an incident involving a boat propellor at Echo Reservoir in Echo State Park.

According to a statement from the Utah Department of Natural Resources State Parks Division, Walter Greer, a three-year-old from Salt Lake City, was riding in a boat with family members when he fell into the reservoir. After falling in Greer was struck by the propeller at the back of the boat.

Utah State Parks rangers responded to the scene at approximately 4:45 p.m. and recovered Greer from the water, but he had already passed away. He had been wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

“This incident remains under investigation at this time,” said a statement from the Utah DNR. “The Utah Division of State Parks extends our condolences to the family and to all those grieving at this difficult time.”
