Utah hosts Gay Rodeo Regionals

OGDEN, Utah — For the first time in 19 years, the Utah Gay Rodeo Association (UGRA) got to host a rodeo.

The Crossroads of the West event, the  Western Regionals, were held last Saturday and Sunday at the Golden Spike Event Center in Ogden.

“This is where cowboys, cowgirls, and cowfolk alike come together for rough stock, speed, and other events,” The UGRA said in a statement.

Some of the more traditional events included; calf roping on foot, team roping, mounted breakaway, pole bending, mutton busting, steer riding, ranch saddle bronc, bull riding, barrel racing, and flag racing.

Some of the less traditional, but no less crowd-pleasing events included; steer decorating, chute dogging, goat dressing, community goat dressing, and wild drag.

“Thank you to everyone who came out this last weekend to support the Rodeo. We hope that each of you had a great time. Thank you to the Golden Spike Event Center for their support and also to all the volunteers, vendors and performers. Congratulations to the winners and also great job to all the contestants,” wrote the UGRA on Facebook.

Rodeo sponsors included SLC Pride and Ogden Pride.

Based in West Valley City, the UGRA, a part of the International Gay Rodeo Association has been around since 2016.
