Tests show skiers are still using banned fluoro wax in Park City

PARK CITY, Utah — The results of testing conducted by the Park City Public Utilities Team showed that skiers are still using banned fluoro ski waxes in Park City.

The team tested the snow at the ski resorts as well as Round Valley for PFAS, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances commonly referred to as “forever chemicals” because they take a long time to break down. PFAS is commonly found in fluoro ski waxes.

The test results showed that these areas were still positive for PFAS, even though fluoro ski waxes were banned in Park City by the Drinking Water Source Protection Ordinance passed earlier this year.

“Even though fluoro ski wax, which is harmful to our drinking water, is banned in Park City, it is still being used!” Said a statement from Park City Municipal. “Do your part! Cease the use of fluoro ski wax. Trust us, you’ll still have fun and glide with ease!”
