South Summit Fire rescues pet cat trapped in house fire
Crews were called to the home at approximately 9 a.m. where they discovered flames coming from the eaves and roof of a home.
“This fire had a few challenges, access due to narrow and icy roads on a hill,” said a statement from South Summit Fire District. “Although a fire hydrant was close it was was difficult to hook up because of the snow and ice around and covering it.”
Firefighters were able to contain the fire, although the house sustained heavy smoke damage, and a large portion of the roof was burned off.
There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters, and crews were able to find the family’s pet cat hiding in one of the home’s closets.
“Although the cat was not too sure about going with the firefighter at first we were able to convince her that was the best thing to do,” said a statement from South Summit Fire District. “Family members were happy to be reunited with her.”
