Harmons grocery looking at expanding to The Outlets

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City is currently in the running to become one of the newest homes to a Harmons Grocery. According to the developer, this new facility will have many benefits for the local community providing access to fresh produce and other goods and creating jobs.

The new store would be located in The Outlet Mall, located at 6699 N Landmark Drive, and would span 72,000 square feet on two levels. Owners of The Outlets went before the Snyderville Planning Commission on Tuesday, January 10, with a redevelopment application to discuss their vision for the new store and surrounding area, including trails, pocket parks, and a potential for 26 affordable housing units.

“The last time the applicants came in front of the planning commission, they had come back to explore the possibility of the project, including some employee housing,” said Pat Putt, Summit County Community Development Director. “I think what they are doing right now is going back and re-thinking the site design and putting more thought into the employee housing. It is our impression that the project is still live and is going to move forward but is in a design mode right now.”

The Outlet Mall was built in 1991 as a retail and commercial village. To accommodate the proposed size of the Harmons Grocery, approximately 60,000 square feet of the existing retail space would need to be reconfigured. The new store is expected to employ 70 part-time employees and 75 full-time.

“A lot of people think our job is to decide what supermarket goes where, it is not what the planning commission does,” said Thomas Cooke, commissioner for Snyderville Planning Commission. “We approach any development application at face value, it is not biased. I would say we are still pretty early in the process.”

Harmons offered no comment on this project at this time. The Planning Commission will discuss the proposal at future meetings.
