Alterra announces investment into eight lifts

DENVER — Alterra Mountain Company announced today that it will add 8 new lifts across its resorts during the 2023-24 winter season as part of its $500 million capitol investment program.

According to a press release from Alterra, these additional lifts will include new or replacement lifts at Steamboat, Mammoth Mountain, Winter Park Resort, Solitude Mountain Resort, and Snowshoe Mountain.

Solitude’s Eagle Express will be replaced with a high-speed 6-pack lift, Mammoth Mountain’s Canyon Express will be upgraded from a quad to a high-speed 6-pack, Snowshoe’s Powder Monkey lift will be replaced with a fixed-grip quad, and Winter Park’s Pioneer Lift will become a 6-pack.

In the next year Alterra will invest an estimated $400 million into lifts, as well as snowmaking, summer activities, guest amenities, and resort infrastructure. The company will also invest $50 million in employee housing, and $40 million in technology upgrades.

“In our first five years, Alterra Mountain Company has established itself as a proven leader in the outdoor industry, and we intend to continue to innovate by investing in large-scale projects that will deliver differentiated guest experiences,” said Jared Smith, president and CEO of Alterra. “These projects, and our investments in the years ahead, demonstrate our unwavering commitment to evolving our destinations to better serve our guests and to improving the experience our employees can expect when living and working in our mountain communities.”

Alterra completed over $1 billion in capital improvements over its first 5 years in operation last year, far surpassing the company’s original goal of $555 million that was announced when the company was first formed.
