SLC bidding to host the 2024 Republican National Convention

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City is a contender to host the 2024 Republican National Convention.

The Utah Republican Party, along with Visit Salt Lake, pitched the Republican National Convention in the nation’s capital earlier this week, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

At the moment, there are seven other known cities pitching to host, including Las Vegas, Kansas City, and Nashville.

“We’re one of the few red states in the Intermountain West right now. It’s almost all blue around us. The GOP is really paying attention to the West right now because every state is going to matter in 2024,” Carson Jorgensen, chairman of the Utah Republican Party, told The SLT.

Mike Deaver, who is leading SLC’s bid, told The SLT that Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson have endorsed the effort.
