Utah ranked as the worst state for women’s equality

PARK CITY, Utah — WalletHub.com recently released its 2021 rankings of the best and worst states for women’s equality in the United States.

WalletHub used several variables in order to calculate the rankings. Workplace environment, education, and health make up 80 percent of their score. The other 20 percent is based on political empowerment.

For example, some of the data that makes up the variables includes disparity in things such as income, unemployment, entrepreneurship, poverty, advanced educational attainment, and doctor-visit affordability.

Utah is ranked as #50 on the list. Its calculated score of 29.85 wasn’t even that close to #49 Idaho’s score of 37.37.

Utah is ranked the worst in the largest work hours gap between genders and the largest educational attainment gap (for advanced degrees).

The World Economic Forum also ranks 156 countries based on gender equality — the U.S. ranked 30th this year, which is an improvement from last year’s 53rd.

Despite women making up more than 50 percent of the population, they only hold roughly 25 percent of Fortune 500 board seats and makeup only 27 percent of the American legislators.
