TOKYO, Japan. — Utah’s own Rhyan White, a member of the women’s swimming TEAM USA, qualified today in Tokyo to advance through the meet. White was born in Sandy, attended AMES High School in Murray, and still lives and trains in Herriman, Utah.
She finished second in her heat to fellow American Reagan Smith. Smith swam to an Olympic record time in the semifinals. After all the preliminary heats, White ended up in sixth place overall in the 100-meter backstroke.
She performed so well in the Olympic Trials that she has qualified to represent her country and her state in the 200-meter backstroke as well.
