Park City Miner broke the world powerlifting squat record

PARK CITY, Utah. — Rising senior Park City Miner’s varsity football lineman, 17-year-old Ian Steele Morris broke the world powerlifting squat record for his age and weight class at the 2021 FitCon IPL World Cup on Saturday, June 5 in Lehi, Utah.

A passionate football player, former ski racer, and straight-A student, Ian squatted 683 pounds in the 275-pound weight class in the U.S. Powerlifting Association (USPA) sanctioned event to set the all-time world junior squat record which was previously 661 pounds. This is also the third biggest squat ever done regardless of weight class in the world at this age.

Ian is coached by Jake Benson from Big Mountain Barbell gym in Salt Lake City.
