Henry Shields: Early Pioneer of Park City lecture by great-great-grandson Matt Shields Melville

April 17 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Park City Museum hosts a lecture series at its Education and Collections Center on Sidewinder Drive.

Park City Museum will host a lecture called Henry Shields: Early Pioneer of Park City, given by Matt Melville on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 5-6 p.m. held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center located at 2079 Sidewinder Drive.  More information can be found at www.parkcityhistory.org.

Henry Shields was born in Belfast in 1842 and moved to Park City in 1879. Henry was a sheriff, a probate judge, an elected Park City attorney, a Summit County attorney, and had private practice on Main Street that burned down in the great fire of 1898. He was arrested and charged with murder, helped prosecute murders, and assisted in defending murderers. He also helped bring electricity to
City Hall and Main Street. Judge Shields may be the most influential Parkite you have never heard about yet.

Matt Shields Melville works for the Christian Center of Park City and is a volunteer and supporter of the Park City Museum. When he is not working, you will probably find him at a dog park with his labradoodle Hank, skiing, fly fishing, or mountain biking. Matt is the great-great-grandson of Henry and Aramintha Shields.
