Recycle Utah to unveil plans for new recycling center at 100 Mile Meal

PARK CITY, Utah — Recycle Utah is preparing to give the public its first look at plans for a new recycling and sustainability center.

Recycle Utah will unveil the designs and vision for its future home during its 11th annual 100 Mile Meal on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Red Pine Lodge.

The event, traditionally centered around a five-course meal made with ingredients sourced within 100 miles of Park City, will take on added significance this year as Recycle Utah begins showing the community what its next chapter could look like.

“We’ll also be sharing the first public look at the plans for Recycle Utah’s new Community Recycling and Sustainability Center,” Executive Director Andy Hecht said in an invitation to the event.

The new center represents a major shift for the organization, which has operated for decades from a roughly 0.4-acre site on Woodbine Way in Bonanza Park.

Recycle Utah has been working toward a new home as Park City’s redevelopment of Bonanza has forced the nonprofit to prepare for a move. In May, Park City Council approved conveying roughly four acres of city-owned land near Home Depot to Recycle Utah for the new facility and extended the organization’s deadline to vacate its current site to March 1, 2027.

The new property, located along Paintbrush Road, is several times larger than Recycle Utah’s existing site and is intended to give the organization room to expand its operations.

A bigger home for a growing operation

The move comes as Recycle Utah and local governments have grappled with how to expand waste diversion in Summit County.

The nonprofit currently accepts more than 45 types of materials and has long served as the community’s primary recycling drop-off and education center, collecting roughly 1,775 tons of recyclable materials annually in recent years.

The new facility is expected to provide more room for public recycling drop-off, material consolidation, special-handling materials, education and outreach, commercial recycling, and reuse opportunities. Recycle Utah has also identified expanded food-waste collection as a potential part of its future operations.

From 100-mile meal to a new beginning

The 100 Mile Meal will feature a five-course dinner prepared by the culinary team at Vail Resorts, with ingredients sourced from within 100 miles of Park City. The evening will also include local food, music and drinks at Red Pine Lodge.

This year, guests will also be able to attend the Recycle Utah Rendezvous, beginning at 7:30 p.m., for a first look at the designs and vision for the new center. Admission to the Rendezvous is included with a 100 Mile Meal ticket.

“It’s more than a meal — it’s a moment to celebrate how far we’ve come and to raise a glass to where we’re headed next,” Recycle Utah said of the event.

The 100 Mile Meal runs from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 22 at Red Pine Lodge. The Recycle Utah Rendezvous is scheduled for 7:30 to 10 p.m.
