Heber Valley expands July 4th festival to three days for America’s 250th anniversary

HEBER CITY — The annual Red, White, and Blue Festival in Heber Valley is expanding to a three-day celebration this year to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, with events running July 2–4 across Heber City and Midway.

The festival will include returning staples like the Red, White, and Blue Parade, Main-to-Main 5K and 10K races, Freedom Trains aboard the Heber Valley Railroad and fireworks. New additions this year include a live production of “1776 The Musical” at Timpanogos Valley Theatre, a community mosaic art project and a free outdoor concert July 3 featuring American Soldier, a Toby Keith tribute band, at Heber City Main Street Park.

“This year’s festival is designed to be more than a Fourth of July event,” said Jessica Broadhead, deputy director at Heber Valley Tourism, Chamber, and Economic Development and a board member for the Red, White, and Blue Festival nonprofit. “With the nation preparing to commemorate America250, we wanted to expand the experience and create something residents and visitors can enjoy across multiple days.”

The celebration kicks off Thursday, July 2, with the Heber Market on Main from 5–9 p.m., featuring live music, food vendors and local artisans.

On the Fourth itself, festivities begin at 6:30 a.m. with hot air balloon activities at Heber Valley Airport, followed by a 5K and 10K at 7 a.m. and the parade at 9 a.m. Freedom Train departures are scheduled at 9 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. A free hot dog lunch, pie-eating contest, cornhole tournament, rootbeer chugging contest and a Guns vs. Hoses Tug o’ War are among the afternoon activities at Heber City Park.

In Midway, the day begins with a cannon blast at 6 a.m. and a flag ceremony at Midway Town Square. The Wasatch Plein Air Paradise art exhibit runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Utah Symphony performs from 8–10 p.m., followed by fireworks from Memorial Hill.
