Friday is the last day to register for Summit County’s June 23 primary

County Council, County Clerk and school board seats are on the ballot

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Voters across Summit County head to the polls June 23 for the 2026 primary election, with contested races on the ballot for County Council, County Clerk and several school board seats.

Friday, June 12 is the last day to register and receive a vote-by-mail ballot. Voters who are not registered by that deadline but are otherwise eligible may still vote provisionally in person during early voting or on Election Day. Registered voters can check their status or update their registration at voter.utah.gov.

County Council

Two County Council seats are up this cycle — Districts 4 and 5 — both drawing Democratic primaries with no Republican candidates on the ballot, meaning the primary winner is likely to decide each race in November.

In District 4, which covers the central Snyderville Basin, Christie Babalis and John Kucera are competing for the Democratic nomination. District 5 features Canice Harte and Meredith Reed on the Democratic ballot.

State legislature

Several state legislative seats representing Summit County are also on the June 23 primary ballot.

In House District 59, Democrats Micah Kagan and Celeste T. Johnson face off in a primary, as do three Republicans — Luke Searle, Mark Allen and Jeffrey Pierce.

House District 4 has a Democratic primary between Zane Woolstenhulme and a Republican primary between incumbent Rep. Tiara Auxier and challenger Kris Campbell.

Senate District 20, which includes Summit County, features no primary — Forward Party candidate Annette McRae and Republican Ronald Winterton advance directly to the November general election.

County Clerk

The County Clerk race is one of two contests this cycle where both parties fielded candidates, setting up a November matchup regardless of the primary outcome. Democrat Malena Stevens and Republican Suni Woolstenhulme are each running unopposed within their parties and will advance directly to the general election.

Uncontested county races

Several other county offices have only one candidate filed. Democrat Margaret Olson is running for County Attorney, Democrat Cindy Keyes for County Auditor and Democrat Kacey Bates for County Sheriff. All three will advance to the November general election.

School boards

Multiple nonpartisan school board seats across the county’s three school districts are also on the ballot.

In the Park City School District, Denise Andrews is running unopposed for District 4 and Nick Hill for District 5. In South Summit, Matthew Weller filed for District 4 and Ty Metcalf for District 5, both running without opposition.

North Summit has contested races in both open seats. Kevin Orgill and Rene Potter are squaring off for District 4. District 5 features Russell Hendry and Eric Cylvick after Kari Koyle withdrew her candidacy.

Voter registration deadline Friday

The deadline to request a ballot and receive it by mail is 5 p.m. on June 12. Voters registered with a party will automatically receive their party’s ballot. Any registered voter can request a Democratic ballot at summitcounty.info/ballotrequest by June 12. Voters may cast a ballot in only one party’s primary.

For questions, the Summit County Clerk’s Office can be reached at 435-336-3040 or elections@summitcountyutah.gov. Voters can also text “SCVOTERS” to 91896 for election updates.
