Semi hauling protein powder tips, blocks multiple lanes on westbound I-80 in Parley’s Canyon

PARK CITY, Utah — A crash on westbound Interstate 80 in Parley’s Canyon is causing significant delays for commuters heading from Park City toward the Salt Lake Valley, with traffic backed up to the Summit Park exit as of this report.

The incident was reported at milepost 135 in the Parley’s Canyon area, where two of three westbound lanes are blocked, according to the Utah Department of Transportation, leaving only a single lane open through the corridor.

UDOT spokesperson Lt. Zach Randall confirmed a semi tractor hauling protein powder tipped onto its side. Troopers are on scene investigating what happened and what led to the crash.

Firefighters are also responding, and there are no reports of injuries at this time.

There is currently no estimate for cleanup or reopening, though Randall said traffic will be affected for several hours.

Parley’s Canyon is a key commuter route between Summit County and the Salt Lake Valley, and the timing of the crash is expected to create heavy congestion as afternoon travel ramps up.

Drivers leaving Park City and surrounding areas should expect slowdowns, stop-and-go conditions, and extended travel times along the westbound route.

This is a developing situation.
