Summit County seeks artists to design public art benches for Silver Summit building

PARK CITY, Utah —Summit County Public Art Advisory Board is seeking proposals for  two 8-foot and five 5-foot artistic benches for the exterior of the Silver Summit Services Building.

The benches should reflect the project’s theme of unity, community, justice, service, and law and order and engage the viewer beyond the project’s installation. All artwork must be fabricated in durable, permanent, outdoor materials that are safe, easily maintained, and have proven their viability in public installations. Due to the location, artwork must be able to withstand deep snowfall, high winds, and variable temperatures.

Officials also stipulate that artwork must be suitable for public viewing by all ages and the general public. Artwork that has profanity, nudity, political messaging, or otherwise inappropriate content will not be considered.

The intent of this project is to create artwork that is broadly welcoming, community centered and accessible to all visitors. Therefore, artwork proposals should be appropriate for a diverse public audience and should not include political or partisan messaging, advocacy-related imagery, or symbols commonly associated with divisive social or political movements.

Artists or artist teams can submit proposals for any number of the seven benches. A pre-proposal meeting will be held on Friday, May 15 from 9 to 10 a.m. The meeting is not mandatory but recommended. To receive a Zoom link for the meeting, please email jenny@pcscarts.org by Thursday, May 13 at 5 p.m.

All proposals for the Silver Summit Services Building Exterior Art Benches must be submitted by 5 p.m. May 22. Artwork installation is projected to take place between summer and fall of 2026.
