PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City High School Miners claimed their second consecutive 5A girls lacrosse state championship Thursday, beating Fremont 19-9 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
The Miners cruised through the playoffs to get there, defeating Payson 18-1 in the quarterfinals and Salem Hills 16-4 in the semifinals, both played on Dumke Field at Westminster University.
Park City athletics primarily compete in the 4A classification, but the girls lacrosse program’s sustained success has placed the team in the 5A bracket.
The championship caps a milestone debut season for head coach Adam Ghitelman, a former professional goalkeeper who played in both Major League Lacrosse and the Premier Lacrosse League.
Eight seniors anchored the title-winning squad: Lily Yatkeman, CoCo Crawford, Annie Ellis, Renee Hebert, Olivia Dalton, Jacki Kent, Grace Puleo and Shiva Minter. Puleo will attend Villanova University next year, and Minter is headed to Harvard in the fall.
