Park City schools warn families of safety hazard near SR-224 construction zone

PARK CITY, Utah — A Park City school sent families an urgent safety alert Tuesday after the SR-224 Bus Rapid Transit project team flagged that students walking home are turning directly into an active excavation zone filled with heavy machinery and equipment.

Students walking west on Silver Springs Drive toward SR-224 must use the traffic light at the intersection to cross and follow the official designated pedestrian route, the notice said. Families were asked to review the walking route with their children and to avoid turning south into the dirt and work zones as they approached SR-224.

“While the sidewalk may appear clear from a distance, the area to the left is an active work site with significant hazards,” the school said. A map provided by construction High Valley Transit outlines the safe detour.

The alert comes as the Silver Springs Road to Canyons Resort Drive segment of the Bobsled Express bus rapid transit project moves through its first full construction season. High Valley Transit has said work along that stretch — which includes a new multi-use trail, pedestrian improvements, and related drainage and utility work — will continue from April through November.

The agency previously shared that sidewalk and multi-use trail segments along the SR-224 corridor would be rerouted around work areas during the 2026 construction season, with detours expected at locations including Silver Springs Drive. Construction on the broader project is expected to continue in phases through summer 2028.
