PARK CITY, Utah — A Park City couple is turning a 200-mile endurance race into a fundraiser for rescue animals.
Cobus and Caitie Van Den Berg are dedicating their Tahoe 200 Ultra Run to Nuzzles & Co., the Park City-based no-kill animal rescue where they adopted their cats.
The couple launched a GoFundMe to raise money for the shelter during the busy spring season, when shelters often see an influx of kittens and puppies in need of food, medical care, and placement.
“The shelter works tirelessly to provide food, warmth, and love to every animal that comes through their doors,” the fundraiser says. “We want to help ensure that each fur baby gets the best possible life, and that’s why we’re dedicating our Tahoe 200 Ultra run to raising funds for their care.”
The Tahoe 200 is scheduled for June 12-16 and covers 200.2 miles with 36,857 feet of ascent and descent. The course takes runners around Lake Tahoe along sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail, through mountain terrain, aspen meadows, ridgelines, and forested trails.
Nuzzles & Co. is a Summit County nonprofit focused on rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and prevention. The organization says it has saved more than 27,000 animals over more than 35 years, including newborns, seniors, injured animals, special-needs pets, and abandoned animals that can be harder for traditional shelters to place.
The nonprofit operates a Rescue Ranch in Peoa and an Adoption Center and Community Clinic in Park City. Beyond adoption, it provides volunteer-supported animal care, socialization, and enrichment for dogs and cats awaiting homes.
The Van Den Bergs’ GoFundMe, titled “Running 200 Miles for Nuzzles & Co’s Fur Babies,” says proceeds will support animals in the shelter’s care.
