Overnight lane closures begin Monday as UDOT repaves I-80 near Parleys Canyon

PARK CITY, Utah — Drivers heading between Park City and Salt Lake City should prepare for overnight delays beginning Monday as the Utah Department of Transportation starts a major repaving project on Interstate 80 at the mouth of Parleys Canyon.

Construction crews are expected to begin work on the first phase of the project, which stretches from 2300 East to the Stillman Bridge.

I-80 will be reduced to a single lane overnight, so transportation officials are warning drivers to expect heavy travel delays through the work zone. According to UDOT, overnight lane reductions will be in place Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. during construction.

In addition to delays, motorists should expect reduced lane widths and restrictions on oversized loads traveling through the area. Commuters may also notice increased noise, dust, and vibrations during overnight operations.

The first segment of construction is expected to continue through June, with a second phase of the project slated to begin later this summer.

UDOT officials say the work is aimed at improving road conditions and extending the lifespan of the interstate.

The repaving project comes as traffic volumes continue to increase along the busy corridor connecting Summit County and the Wasatch Front, particularly during weekends and commuter hours.

UDOT is encouraging drivers to plan ahead, slow down in work zones and allow extra travel time during overnight hours.
