LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah —The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) closed SR 210 in Little Cottonwood Canyon (LCC) around 1:10 p.m. yesterday to conduct avalanche mitigation work. A powerful morning storm had brought 12–22 inches of snow, with snowfall rates reaching up to 5 inches per hour in the canyon. During mitigation efforts, an avalanche was reported to have crossed the road, extending the closure.
The road reopened a little over three hours later, allowing commuter traffic to resume. However, as of this report, SR 210 has been closed again for further avalanche mitigation work. UDOT expects to provide an update on road conditions by 8:30 a.m. today. Check https://www.instagram.com/udotcottonwoods/ for current updates
