COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. — On Sunday, Zoe Atkin, a Park City resident, took second place in Copper Mnt. at the FIS World Cup Grand Prix.
She and her sister Izzy grew up in Maine but after deciding to represent their father’s home country of Great Britain, they moved to Park City and teamed up with the Youth Sports Alliance for sponsorship opportunities.
Eileen Gu captured first place in the women’s ski halfpipe with a score of 90 on her first run, while Zoe Atkin secured second with an 89.5. Gu, an Olympic medalist, fell on her second attempt at the bottom of the pipe but walked away uninjured. Only the highest score counted in the competition, which took place under clear skies before a large crowd.

I've lived in Park City for 30 years but right off the starting line, my journalism professors expressed plaudits after class for writing more so about the small-town sports in the surrounding mountains than the urban updates they assigned. Therefore, I’m on par punning and penning Parkites' pastimes. Turning high and early through my career, I’ve worked communications for The Olympics, the Paralympics and the Special Olympics. Additionally, there's been National Geographic, Patagonia, NCAA, USA Nordic and the United States Library of Congress, so I guess you could say this ain't my first rodeo.
