Park City considers two paths for senior center construction

PARK CITY, Utah — City officials are seeking community input on the future of the proposed Woodside Senior Center and housing project at the Park City Council meeting on Thursday, Dec. 19., after multiple site plan revisions and ongoing funding challenges.

The Park City Council will discuss two potential paths forward during its Dec. 19 meeting:

  1. Proceed with the current combined project. This plan includes a multi-story senior center and affordable housing units, but it faces challenges such as zoning variances and federal tax credit funding.
  2. Focus solely on a stand-alone senior center—Under this option, affordable housing would be revisited later.
Site Plan #3 for the Woodside Senior Center project includes a 10,000-square-foot multi-story senior center, 20 parking spaces, and 44 affordable family housing units. This option eliminates market-rate units and reduces underground parking, addressing site constraints while focusing on affordability and senior services. The plan will be discussed at the Dec. 19 Park City Council meeting.

The proposed combined plans offer options for 43-50 affordable units alongside a 10,000-square-foot senior center. However, funding gaps remain significant, with the city potentially needing to contribute up to $20 million.

The Council’s decision will determine whether the project moves forward as a comprehensive senior center and housing initiative or pivots to a standalone facility. If a stand-alone senior center is pursued, the city plans to publish a design-build request for proposals in early 2025, with construction potentially beginning in winter 2027.

Community members interested in the future of senior services and affordable housing are encouraged to attend the Dec. 19 meeting or provide input ahead of time to ensure their voices are heard.
