Avalanche Awareness Week begins today
Tonight, the Utah Avalanche Center kicks off the 6th Annual Statewide Avalanche Awareness Week across Utah, in Sugarhouse Park from 4:30-7:00 PM.
Five years ago, the Utah Legislature passed House Bill 380, recognizing the first week of December as Avalanche Awareness Week. The Utah Avalanche Center and the Division of Outdoor Recreation will be celebrating the Fifth Annual Avalanche Awareness Week, from December 3 – December 10.
Officials at Utah Avalanche Center said the goal of Avalanche Awareness Week is to save lives through activities that promote avalanche awareness, education, and safety through a variety of events to promote avalanche safety.
Be sure to check out the free Pinebrook Beacon Park Opening with Inspired Summit Adventures on Wednesday, December 4th, 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the Park City Day School (3120 Pinebrook Rd., Park City, UT.)
The event will be a great opportunity to learn and practice avalanche rescue for free. In collaboration with Inspired Summits, the UAC installed a public beacon training park in Pinebrook by the Park City Day School. Come to practice using your beacon with avalanche professionals and learn how to use this free resource during the winter.
No registration is required, just show up with your beacon!
Visit the UAC website for more details on each event.
