Weekend weather update: Widespread snow expected as cold front moves in overnight
Moisture from historic "bomb cyclones" in the pacific northwest will arrive in Utah later this evening bringing valley and mountain snow.
PARK CITY, Utah – Gusty southwest winds and mild temperatures will prevail today as moisture from the the atmospheric river begins to shift east and weaken a bit this afternoon. Very light precipitation over the higher terrain is possible starting early in the afternoon accompanied by colder air.
The main cold front however is forecast to move in shortly after midnight with an accompanying frontal band developing that should bring widespread snow. Temperatures will remain cold through Monday with daytime highs in the 30s and overnight lows in the teens.
Snow Totals
The heaviest snowfall is forecast for the early hours overnight and into Sunday morning. Expected snowfall for the Park City base/town is 3-5″, while Park City area mountains should receive 5-9″. The Cottonwood Canyons could receive 6-12″ of snow.
High pressure quickly moves in with dry air shutting off most precipitation on Sunday afternoon/evening, providing a break with only a slight chance of flurries until the next storm system is slated to arrive early Tuesday.
