Park City School District greenlights $38M athletic expansion
PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City School District Board of Education unanimously approved phases one, two, and four of a $38 million athletic facilities improvement project on Tuesday, advancing a comprehensive plan to enhance district sports infrastructure. Phase three was deliberately not voted on at the meeting, with the board acknowledging discussions around phase three will be a more involved community discussion.
District officials emphasized that the $38 million investment will be covered by existing capital outlay funds and capital fund balance, providing significant upgrades without additional tax burden to residents.
Phase three, which involves renovating the gym, adding a field house, and expanding parking, is estimated to cost over $90 million. To fund these upgrades, the district is exploring several options, including the possibility of a tax increase.
The ambitious Treasure Mountain Sports Complex project comes as student-athlete participation has grown from 657 to 761 students in just two years. The four-phase plan, includes the construction of turf baseball and softball fields, eight tennis/pickleball courts, demolition of Treasure Mountain Junior High, parking improvements, two turf soccer and cross fields, and track and turf replacement.
The comprehensive sports facility plan addresses Park City’s unique mountain community needs, with designs accounting for seasonal weather changes across the district’s 19 sports programs.
