Police blotter: ‘Misplanted’ half pound of marijuana, disorderly conduct and abandoned car crash in Promontory

Incident: Man finds $2,500 worth of marijuana in his car
A Park City-area man got an unexpected surprise after leaving his vehicle unlocked outside Powder Paws Animal Hospital on Rasmussen Road. When he returned after an hour, he found a bag on the floor of his car—containing nine ounces of marijuana.
Summit County Sheriff’s Sgt. Skyler Talbot estimated the marijuana’s street value at over $2,500. Talbot suggested the drugs were likely intended for someone else and mistakenly left in the wrong vehicle. “The intent was likely to distribute it, but they got the wrong car,” Talbot said.
“The man had taken his dogs to the vet and when he got back in the car he noticed a brown paper bag on the floor and inside were three plastic bags with various amounts of cannabis,” Talbot said.
There are no leads on the suspect since there is no surveillance footage available. Talbot said it is not common to receive reports of drugs being left behind like this. He added that there’s no reason to suspect the man had any involvement with the marijuana.
Despite leaving his car unlocked, the owner reported that nothing was stolen.

Incident: Intoxicated female breaks cop car window with handcuffs on way to hospital, then jail for intoxication and theft
Deputies were dispatched to deal with a highly intoxicated woman found by Fire Department personnel outside the Newpark Hotel. The woman had been asked by hotel staff to leave the property and police say she finally complied and went outside. When medical staff arrived she was passed out on the ground near the hotel. Medical staff then transported the female to the hospital where she become very non-compliant. Hospital personnel requested deputies to respond. Deputies took custody of the female and while en-route to the jail they decided the woman in fact needed medical attention, so they brought her back to the hospital. While in the parking lot waiting to be brought back in to the hospital the woman broke the deputy’s rear window.
“She somehow got her handcuffs to the front of her body and caused quite a bit of damage to the vehicle,” Talbot said.
In addition to breaking the glass of the rear window with the handcuffs, Talbot said she broke a lot of the hard plastic in the cage area of the car with her feet and she also ripped out all the surveillance cameras in the rear of the car.
After she was finally treated for intoxication, police brought her back to the Summit County Jail.
The woman was charged with Intoxication, Theft and Destroying Government Property.
