Former MARC employee arrested on sex abuse charges

Patrick Baker, 25, worked as a part-time lifeguard at the recreation facility and is being held on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and attempted sodomy

PARK CITY, Utah – On Wednesday, the Park City Municipal Corporation announced that they had learned through press reports that Patrick Baker, 25, a seasonal lifeguard and swim instructor at the PC MARC during the summer of 2024, was arrested in Salt Lake County for multiple charges related to child sexual abuse.

“Since learning of his arrest, the City has terminated his employment and worked to notify parents who had a child enrolled in programming involving Baker,” a statement from the City read. “Park City has not received any information that any criminal activity occurred in relation to his City employment. Baker’s arrest was based on alleged conduct that occurred outside of Summit County.”

Baker, who also was employed by the Murray Boys and Girls Club as its teen program director, was arrested on multiple charges related to child sex abuse and was taken into custody on September 30, 2024.

He faces one charge each of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Enticing a Minor and Sodomy on a Child.

According to a police affidavit, Baker used the internet and text messages to connect with someone he thought was a 5-year-old boy. In the messages, Baker proposed to have sexual intercourse with the minor upon meeting up with the child.

When Baker arrived at the designated location to meet with the boy, he noticed law enforcement officials awaiting him and attempted to run from the scene. He was caught by officers and arrested.

Clayton Scrivner, Park City’s Communication Manager said Baker was last at work at the MARC on Sunday, September 29 on a part-time lifeguard shift.

Parents of children who were in contact with Baker at the MARC have been notified and no new allegations against Baker have been made to date, Scrivner said.

Baker was screened by a background check, per policy of the City, before being hired to work at the MARC.

Baker is being held without bail at the Salt Lake County Jail.

Anyone who believes their child may have been subjected to abuse can contact Summit County law enforcement at (435) 615-3601.
