IOC President Thomas Bach scheduled to meet with 2034 games leaders in Salt Lake City

Bach will also make a stop in Park City to meet athletes and supporters

PARK CITY, Utah – International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach will visit Salt Lake City on Sept. 27-28 to meet with leaders of the Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 Olympic bid and key elected officials. His visit will also include stops at various Olympic venues, where he will meet with athletes and local supporters of the Games.

Bach, who led the recent IOC session in Paris, where Salt Lake City was awarded the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, will get a firsthand look at Utah’s Olympic culture, the readiness of its venues, and the community’s enthusiasm for hosting the Games once again.

“It is an honor to have President Bach experience our culture of Olympism, our world-class venues, and the passion of our communities for sport,” said Fraser Bullock, president and CEO of the Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games.

An Olympic gold medalist in fencing at the 1976 Games, Bach last visited Salt Lake City during the 2002 Winter Games as an IOC vice president. Since being elected IOC president in 2013, Bach has overseen significant reforms to the Olympic movement, including those that shaped the Paris 2024 Games, which were more urban and sustainable and achieved full gender parity for the first time.

“The Games were younger, more urban, sustainable, and inclusive,” a press release from the IOC noted.
