GREVE, Denmark — Youth athletes from the Park City Sailing Association (PCSA) competed in four days consisting of 12 races in Denmark for the World Championships of RS TERA-style boats.
There were 61 competitors in the Sport Fleet, and 57 in the Pro Fleet. Team USA consists of nine athletes, six of whom represented PCSA.
Finishes for the PCSA athletes in the Pro Fleet:
- 43rd: Feren Johnson
- 34th: Court Maloof
- 25th: Emmett Ford
Finishes for the PCSA athletes in the Sport Fleet:
- 3rd: Lin Zhou
- 27th: Aiden “Danger” Sams
- 26th: Elizabeth Eden
The TERA’a are nine-foot, single handed dinghys.
Multi-tasking M.J. Maloof traveled along mostly wearing his Dad hat, sometimes wearing his Assistant Coach hat, and if need be, wearing his Board President hat. His collegiate racing background for Dartmouth and later in the Rolex Series in New York qualified him, or overqualified him as the case may be, to be tagged as a much-needed, dedicated volunteer out on Park City’s Jordanelle Reservoir venue, alongside Head Coach Christian Koules.
Maloof told TownLift, “We’ve got a great staff, and passionate athletes whose parents are supportive, that’s truly all it takes. World’s was a great opportunity for kids to engage in friendly competition on an international level.”
PCSA chartered the TERAs in Denmark. The majority of the competitors were British, followed by Denmark, Sweden, USA, Czechia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine and France included in the Parade of Nations. Age-wise, most of them into the 12 to 14 category for this class.

I've lived in Park City for 30 years but right off the starting line, my journalism professors expressed plaudits after class for writing more so about the small-town sports in the surrounding mountains than the urban updates they assigned. Therefore, I’m on par punning and penning Parkites' pastimes. Turning high and early through my career, I’ve worked communications for The Olympics, the Paralympics and the Special Olympics. Additionally, there's been National Geographic, Patagonia, NCAA, USA Nordic and the United States Library of Congress, so I guess you could say this ain't my first rodeo.
