Annual Summer Chamber Music Festival adds evening performances

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Chamber Music Society’s 41st Annual Summer Chamber Music Festival runs for six extended weekends from Jul. 13 through Aug. 18. The festival features concerts on Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. in Park City’s Community Church, 4501 UT-224. You can buy ticket packages for $150 for the entire series. The festival also performs free outdoor concerts in Park City’s City Park every Monday at 6:30 p.m. through Aug. 26.

Saturday evening performances added this year

Founded in 1984 as the Deer Valley International Chamber Music Festival by Russell Harlow and his wife, Leslie Blackburn Harlow, a Julliard-trained violist, the festival transformed into the Park City Beethoven Festival and now the Park City Chamber Music Festival.

“We believe this year is the right time for us to provide the public a second evening performance,” said the Society’s Music Director Russell Harlow. “Many people prefer to attend concerts in the traditional evening time slot. We’re excited to offer that opportunity in addition to our popular Sunday afternoon performances.”

World-class performers come to you

Many of the performers are principal orchestral musicians or members of established and leading chamber ensembles. The festival’s roster of players and programs changes every week. This summer, noted performers include The Amadeus Trio; Christopher O’Riley (noted for the NPR program “From the Top”), appearing with cellist Matt Haimovitz; Sergey Antonov (cellist and 2007 winner of the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow); Arturo Delmoni (soloist and Concertmaster of the New York City Ballet); pianists Michael Gurt (a perennial audience favorite), Doris Stevenson, and Mathew Cagnet, the CDK Trio; violinists Mark Djokic, Blanka Bednarz; and many others.

The programs will include works by Brahms, Mozart, and Mendelssohn, as well as works by Hindemith, Tanyeyev, Dohnanyi, and Glazunov.  “Everything played will be a delight, whether familiar or new to our audiences,” remarked Alan Agle, Chair of Park City Chamber Music Society’s Board of Directors.
