Park City LGBTQ+ Task Force rebrands, celebrates Pride Month with events June 1
Park City Municipal launched the LGBTQ+ Task Force in January 2021, and the group has continued to grow and evolve since then
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The former Park City LGBTQ+ Task Force is now known as Summit Pride, a name change that the group hopes will represent its diverse membership throughout Summit County.
The organization is under new leadership, and is currently working to get its 501 (c) 3 designation, officially making it a nonprofit.
“That’s to help envelop kind of where we’re going with the task force at hand,” said E.J. Elliott, Pride events organizer. “It started off as just kind of a subsidiary of the city, and then it kind of has grown more and more.”
Summit Pride will kick off Pride Month on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. with a flag raising at Miner’s Hospital, which will be followed by a Pride Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Park. Music and lawn games will be provided at the picnic, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks.
“I think a lot of times, a lot of the LGBTQ plus community feels kind of alone in the state,” Elliott said. “And so for us, being able to find each other, being able to have these moments where we can just enjoy a picnic, and it’s June and it’s nice outside, like those little moments are really what we’re trying to foster more with the community.”
Later this month, Summit Pride will hold a Pride happy hour event for residents ages 21 and over on June 28 from 6-10 p.m. at the Boneyard Saloon. Representatives from Summit Pride will also walk in Park City’s annual July 4 parade.
These events are free to attend, and are open to both LGBTQ+ individuals and allies alike.
“Our focus as we continue with summit pride has been less about just focusing on Pride Month, and more about spreading this out throughout the throughout the year,” Elliott said. “So it may come off as a little bit smaller, but that’s probably because we’re gonna have so many events… our focus this year is more on community.”
