Miners lacrosse teams clinch playoff victories at home
PARK CITY, Utah — The boys and girls lacrosse teams brought home wins for Park City High Thursday night at Dozier Field, as the State Tournament for Utah High School Lacrosse got underway on home turf.
Varsity Girls took a 19 – 4 win over Alta, they are now 14-2 as they advance into the quarterfinals of the 5A bracket against Highland High on Saturday. The teams that make it into the semifinals will get to play at Westminster University with the finals to be held at Zions Bank Stadium in Harriman, home of the REAL Monarchs soccer team – a venue which holds 5,000 spectators.
The Varsity Miners Boys team also notched a win in their second round of the playoffs, beating Skyline High with a final score of 7 – 1. They move on to play East High on Saturday in the semifinals.
That result aligns with the pregame plan coaches players shared with TownLift.
“We were lucky to have a bye week so the boys were rested up and fired up and ready to compete at the highest level,” Goalie Coach, Kyle Cord, who played lacrosse at Westminster University said.
Number 24, A.J. Silianoff, a senior and goalie going on to study at Utah State University, was riding a career-high-milestone from two games ago, when the team played against Brighton.
“It was overtime and we called the timeout and then I got the ball, they were locking everybody off, so we went over and then no one slid to me, so I decided to shoot it and we scored in overtime,” Silianoff said.
Sophomores Max Gordon, number 35, and Henry Birch, number 74, were on hand to cheer on the team and help get them through the round.
A big crowd of parents were also present as both volunteers and spectators at the home tournament.
