Community input requested for I-80/SR-224 improvement plans

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has announced a step forward in the environmental study for Kimball Junction.

The publication of the Alternatives Development and Screening Report marks progress in identifying and evaluating potential transportation improvements. Of the three alternatives initially considered, based on the Kimball Junction Area Plan, two have been selected for further examination in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS):

  • Alternative A: Introduces a new split-diamond interchange to divert local traffic from I-80 prior to reaching Kimball Junction and includes a pedestrian underpass at SR-224.
  • Alternative C: Focuses on extending turn lanes, widening lanes and adding a pedestrian underpass at SR-224.

UDOT is actively seeking feedback from Summit County residents on these proposed alternatives, the screening process, initial impacts analysis, and any new ideas for the Draft EIS. Community members are encouraged to participate in the comment period, which is open through March 27, 2024. Feedback can be provided by visiting the project website at kimballjunctioneis.udot.utah.gov, emailing kimballjunctioneis@utah.gov or calling 435-255-3186.

UDOT will present an update on the Kimball Junction Environmental Impact Study at the City Council meeting on March 7 at 3 p.m. The meeting is accessible in person at the City Council Chambers (445 Marsac Avenue, Park City, Utah 84060) or via Zoom.
