Park City welcomes first newborn of 2024

The new year's baby arrived a week before her anticipated due date of January 8, which would have coincided with her father's birthday.

PARK CITY, Utah — Intermountain Health Park City Hospital proudly announced the arrival of its first baby born in 2024, Penelope Gene Lamb. Born at 5:53 p.m. on Jan. 1, Penelope is the first child of Carder and Carsyn Lamb, Park City residents. The newborn weighed 5 pounds 10 ounces and measured 19 inches.

Carsyn Lamb expressed her joy, stating, “Holding her is magical. This is our first baby, and I was a little nervous. But it all went so smoothly and everyone at the hospital has been so nice.” Carder Lamb shared his awe at the birthing process, marveling at the strength and resilience of women.

The new year’s baby arrived a week before her anticipated due date of January 8, which would have coincided with her father’s birthday.

Both Carder and Carsyn grew up ski racing in Vail, Colorado. When they shared their good news with a racing friend, the connection was made that should Penelope want to follow in her parents’ footsteps, her birthday will always be an advantage. Her January 1 birthday will make her the oldest in her age division.

Cindy Price, the hospital’s nurse manager for women and newborn services, celebrated the occasion: “Just like a brand-new year, babies are a symbol of hope and new beginnings. We’re thrilled for the Lamb family.”

Penelope’s arrival marked the first of many more births anticipated this year at Park City Hospital, which welcomed 267 newborns in 2023.
